In the design of the Scheffel bogie, based on the principles of the traditional "three-piece" bogie, it connects the left and right bearing saddles of a wheel pair to form a U-shaped subframe. This structure allows the front and rear wheel pairs to be pinned together with the two U-shaped subframes via diagonal rods, forming an autonomous steering mechanism. This innovative design not only enhances the stability of snake motion but also improves the train's ability to pass curves, effectively resolving the conflict between running stability and curve in traditional bogies.

Compared to conventional "three-piece" bogies, the Scheffel bogie has the following advantages:
